Biserk is an Oxfordshire-based contemporary dance company creating modern and challenging work

The company was founded in 1995 and since then Artistic Director Nickely Burke has created 15 full-length works, each touring extensively to small-scale theatres throughout the UK.

Biserk is inspired by a continuing investigation into movement, choreography and story-telling.  The work is created alongside artistic collaborators including actors, composers, digital artists and designers.

Following successful productions One Third of a Picture (2003) and Aurora (2005), the company began investigating its dance theatre roots in collaborations with Ryan Saunders on Hotel and Emma Webb on Speakeasy and site-specific piece Brasenose Place commissioned by Oxford City Council for the Dancin’ Oxford festival.

Biserk offers workshops and classes alongside the professional work, including day and weekend “chill-out” residencies for dancers in Oxfordshire.

"This is contemporary choreography of real quality - never resorting to cliché...a programme of high quality and choreographic interest"
